A modern day story of fortune telling in the world of West Texas oil rigs. A landman, at least one in the oil industry, will act as an intermediary between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landman’s job is to negotiate and finalize agreements with landowners who hold mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. They essentially own the land and leases for oil and gas drilling. As site foremen, they build roads, worker shelters (human camps), supervise the assembly of excavators, and the drilling of the well site itself, especially in remote areas. They are also part fixers, problem solvers, and helpers. Link to CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #44.24 (2022). This could easily have been an 8.5-9. If not for the rude and overly sexualized daughter & ex-wife/mother. They don’t fit the plot and are just annoying and offensive West Texas women. Being from far west Texas myself, I understand where Sheridan is coming from, but it’s scary. West Texas women are some of the strongest and most ambitious women I know. Plus, the writing and acting are amazing. Sheridan could easily be the next Yellowstone if he gets rid of the very unpleasant interfamilial flavor. But then again, I love some of Sheridan’s writing (and acting) and it’s a mostly very enjoyable show.
